The present project concerns the renovation of an apartment in Arenzano, with a specific focus on merging the kitchen and living spaces. The main goal is to create a modern and functional environment where the kitchen becomes the heart of the living area, thanks to the implementation of innovative design.
One of the main changes made was the integration of the kitchen and living areas. This choice was motivated by the desire to create an open and welcoming environment, promoting socialization and the free flow of natural light. Dividing walls were removed to allow for a broader overall view and better interaction between the various functions of the apartment.
The kitchen system was completely rethought to optimize functionality. The central element of this renovation is the kitchen island, which acts as a filter between the living room and the cooking space. The island was designed not only as a practical element but also as a focal point of the overall apartment design.
To accentuate the modern aspect of the environment, the decision was made to use new black ceramic floorings that blend harmoniously with the existing Genoese beaten floors. This contrast between the classic and the contemporary creates a striking visual effect, giving the space a unique and distinctive character. A special addition to this renovation project is a spatial archway with a curtain closure, allowing seamless access from the living area. This solution provides flexible separation between the spaces, enabling an open area or a more intimate environment, depending on the needs.

The project envisions a comprehensive reorganization of the cafeteria service through the expansion of the single-story school building originally constructed in 2011, which shares space with the gymnasium. The intervention is structured into two main phases:
Adaptation of the ground floor: Currently, the ground floor is used for the existing cafeteria service. In this initial phase, the goal is to convert this area into spaces dedicated to the storage of food and raw materials, staff access, and the vertical distribution of personnel and raw materials.
Creation of a new cafeteria building: The second phase involves the construction of a new cafeteria building situated above the single-story building currently used as a locker room. This new cafeteria building will consist of a dining hall and kitchen spaces distributed across two separate floors, allowing direct access from the school.
The external facade of the new cafeteria building draws inspiration from the traditional rural architecture of Trentino, where traditional buildings featured a solid stone base on the ground floor and a lighter structure, often made of wood, on the upper levels.
From a sustainability perspective, the design has been strongly influenced by an ecological approach, with the aim of realizing a nearly Zero Energy Building (nZEB), meaning a building with nearly zero energy consumption.
The renovation of this apartment in the Lombard countryside aimed to completely renew all the spaces, creating a more functional environment. The kitchen and living room were combined into a single open area, enhancing brightness and conviviality. The washbasin area was separated from the main bathroom, serving both as a hand-washing station for guests and as a transitional space between the living area and the bedroom, ensuring greater privacy and practicality. The entire apartment was fitted with a unique linoleum flooring made from cocoa bean shells. The new flooring was chosen for its durability, ease of maintenance, and natural appearance, which gives the spaces a warm and bright atmosphere.
